In a recent development, Arizona State Senator Jake Hoffman, who is under indictment in the 2020 election subversion case, has been elected as the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) national committeeman for Arizona. The announcement came on Saturday, amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.

“I am both humbled and honored to have been elected as the next RNC National Committeeman for Arizona,” Hoffman expressed in a social media post last Saturday.

This development follows closely on the heels of an indictment by an Arizona grand jury against allies of former President Donald Trump, including Hoffman, for their alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

As reported earlier by CNN, Hoffman had penned a two-page letter to former Vice President Mike Pence on January 5, 2021. In the letter, he requested Pence to ensure that Arizona’s electors were not determined by the popular vote, but by the state legislature instead.

In subsequent interviews, Hoffman consistently argued against sending any electors due to the lack of certainty in the election outcome. He also suggested contesting Democrat electors if they were sent.

Following the news of his indictment, Hoffman issued a statement, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. “Let me be unequivocal, I am innocent of any crime, I will vigorously defend myself, and I look forward to the day when I am vindicated of this disgusting political persecution by the judicial process,” he wrote.

CNN has reached out to the Arizona GOP and RNC for comments on the matter.

Others indicted in the case include Boris Epshteyn, a former White House aide and one of Trump’s closest advisers; former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows; and Rudy Giuliani, according to a source familiar with the investigation. While Trump himself has not been charged in Arizona, the indictment details suggest he is “Unindicted Coconspirator 1.”
