In a historic move, Future Forward, the leading super PAC supporting President Joe Biden’s reelection bid, has earmarked a staggering $250 million for television and digital advertising. The campaign is set to span top battleground states, aiming to amplify the Democratic message from the party’s convention in August all the way to Election Day.
With the White House’s endorsement, this investment represents the largest single purchase of political advertising by an external group in campaign history. “The stakes of this election could not be higher, and by Election Day, every battleground voter will know it,” stated Chauncey McLean, a veteran Democratic operative and president of Future Forward. “We’ll run a cost-effective and data-driven program of unprecedented scale to reelect Joe Biden.”
The New York Times first reported the advertising campaign, which will span 10 weeks from the Democratic convention in Chicago through the election. The ads are expected to target “lower information, less-partisan voters” in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, according to a memo obtained by CNN.
Four years ago, Biden won all of these states, except North Carolina. However, his campaign is eyeing the Tar Heel State as a potential safety net in anticipation of a possible rematch with Donald Trump.
The memo outlines the group’s fall campaign strategy, focusing on reaching lower-information younger audiences, Spanish language media in key markets, and media outlets popular with African American voters. In 2020, Future Forward PAC was the largest external advertiser for Biden, with an investment of $140 million. This year’s effort significantly surpasses that figure.
Despite not being legally required to disclose its donors, the group has no plans to do so, according to aides.
