In a significant political development, former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a meeting in Miami on Sunday, as confirmed by a source in close proximity to Trump. This marked their first interaction since DeSantis withdrew from the GOP primary in January.
The meeting was orchestrated by Steve Witkoff, a luxury real estate developer and a long-standing friend of Trump, at DeSantis’ behest, the source revealed. The news was initially reported by The Washington Post.
DeSantis, who was enjoying a round of golf at the Shell Bay Club, agreed to a breakfast meeting with Trump. Witkoff is slated to host a fundraiser for Trump in Miami the following Sunday, as per an invitation copy obtained by CNN.
Earlier this month, at an appreciation retreat, DeSantis assured donors and supporters of his commitment to fundraising for Trump, as per two sources familiar with the matter.
Despite endorsing Trump in the Republican primary following his unsuccessful presidential bid, DeSantis has not been seen at any of Trump’s campaign events since. As reported by CNN in February, DeSantis has been actively maintaining contact with his presidential campaign supporters, including donors and leaders in the early nominating states, hinting at a potential 2028 bid.
During a private conversation with supporters, DeSantis stated, “I haven’t ruled anything out,” according to multiple outlets that reviewed a leaked recording and confirmed by three individuals who listened to the call. He also clarified that he has no plans of serving as vice president.
